Personal Literacy Narrative
Growing up, literacy has always been a very
important and dominant part of my life. Almost every night my mom or dad would
read me a bedtime story. I can still remember lying in bed and having my dad
read me “Good Night Moon”. This was one of my favorite stories. Around holidays
my parents would also read me stories about each holiday. This is how I became
interested in reading. I can also remember reading the books with one or two
words on each page in kindergarten. Kindergarten is where I began to learn how
to read. When we first started to learn how to read with the simple books my
parents saw that I was a very good reader. I never had a problem with reading
and always enjoyed it. By the time I was in fourth grade I was a very active
reader and went to the school library whenever I could. After grade school my
love of reading died down. I did not read as often and found myself being slow
at reading. Last year I recently rediscovered my love of reading. I started
reading books for fun again and got back into my old habit. I believe that I
lost my love of reading in high school because we had so much required reading
to do. I did not enjoy the reading that we had to do so it drew me away from
reading. I never had time to pick up a book that I liked because I was always reading
m y required books for school. Towards senior year we got to choose what books
we wanted to read for our projects. This is how I started to like reading
again. I am glad that I rediscovered my love for reading and I am now an active
reader again.
