Topic Proposal

Topic Proposal
For my research project, I would like to approach the topic of the importance of writing and what it does for people and how it has helped our culture as well as the human race. I like this topic because I am interested in the importance of why people write an what it does for them. I am interested in learning more about the study of writing and how it came to be such a popular thing to do. Personally, I am not very good at writing, especially free writing and creative writing, so I am interested in learning more about it and how people are connected to it. I would like to study the history of writing and it's importance to our learning and development. I think it will be interesting to learn about how people use writing as a hobby and passion, while others do not like wiring and only use it when necessary.

  1. Abby, I think you are questioning why people feel compelled to write. I am unsure as to how you can challenge this topic as a construct. After some research, if you don't think that you can contribute something new to the conversation, you might start looking at the writing process or what "good" writing is. Look at Murray and Allen, both of whom we are reading for class this week. The Murray articles (both the one about him and the one by him) look at Murray writing process. Allen examines what makes writers "good" at writing vs. the construct that some writers are inherently natural writer and "good" due to talent not due to the work and effort they put into refining their writing. Looking at both of these alternate constructs may help you find a position in your original construct.
