Flynn

Before You Read
feminist inquiry- anything that involves feminism or issues surrounding feminism.

Summary
In Elizabeth Flynn's “Composing as a Woman”, she talks about feminism and how women's voices have not been heard. She does this by discussing how men and women's gender differences in writing. The audience of this article can be people such as instructors or teachers. This is true because when educators read this article, they will get information on how literature should be taught in a non sexist way.
Synthesis
I can compare Flynn's article to Wardle because they both talk about authority in a specific discourse community. Flynn can also be compared to Wysocki because they both discuss the roles of women in society. Lastly, Flynn's article can be compared to Gee because they both discuss discourse community and the importance of individuality.

Quotation
I agree with quote and how she believes it is important to study the difference between male and female writers.
“I nevertheless was primarily interested in establishing, if only tentatively, that it would be productive for researchers in the field to attend to differences between male and female writers.” (pg. 167)
I like this quote because it shows how feminism has changed.
“Fifteen years later we are at a considerably different moment within feminist studies in general and feminist composition in particular.” (pg. 167)
I like this quote because the author is being honest and we see a different side of her writing.
“I must confess that even when I was writing “Composing as a Woman” I felt uneasy about dichotomous representations between males and females in the work I was drawing on and about assumptions that women’s traditional roles were reproduced easily and readily because daughters identified with and emulated their mothers.” (pg. 168)
I agree with this quote because it was important to make a strong case in the past, or we would not be where we are today.
“It was important, in the late 1980s, to make a strong case for differences between men and women, even if we would later need to qualify, refine, and even contradict those claims.” (pg. 168)

QD3
This quote is talking about how women's voices have been silenced and no one seams to care. It says that when women's voices are ignored, it makes people want to ignore other minorities. It shows how one thing leads to another, and that i it does not stop, all minorities will be ignored.

Thoughts
I liked reading this article because we talked about similar topics in one of my high school classes. I do not consider myself to be a strong feminist, but being female I do agree with the beliefs and support feminism. I also liked this article because it was short and sweet. Reading shorter articles makes it easier to focus and remember all the information. Overall, it was one of my favorite articles so far.
