Project #3 Progress Report

For project #3, I will be doing an ethnography of competitive swimmers and their discourse community. So far, I have interviewed one of my subjects and started working on organizing her responses to fit into my paper. I still have to interview my second subject which I will be doing tomorrow night. I have also done a lot of research on the different types of swim teams and each one’s requirements for being on the team. I have been comparing this research to some of my data results to see how each person and type of person fits into the discourse community. While doing my research I have been very observant and taking a lot of notes on the small details such as bathing suit types and locker room routines. These things are important to note in an ethnography because they are the things that make each discourse community unique. I have started working on my synthesis but they still need some work. For my paper I still need to do a little more research on things like the history of the sport. Also, I still need to work on the format and the order of everything. In conclusion, I believe that I have a good start on my paper and should not have many problems finishing it.
