Quotation
I like this quote because it goes well with what we have been reading about lately. We have been learning about the importance of literacy and learning the parts of punctuation and grammar. This is a real life example of how studying language and literature can help improve your life.
“I saw that the best thing in I could do was get hold of a dictionary-to study, to learn some words.” (pg. 354)
This quote is important because it shows how influential Muhammad was on the black community. They listened to what he said and applied it to their lives. Doing this helped them greatly.
“The teachings of Mr. Muhammads stressed how history had been ‘whitened’- when white men had written history books, the black men simply had been left out.” (pg. 356)
This quote is a good example of the white man’s attitude towards the black community. White men would teach their classes with the attitude that blacks were non human and unimportant.
“I had never forgotten how when my class, me and all of those whites, had studied seventh-grade United States history back in Mason, the history of Negro had been covered in one paragraph, and the teacher had gotten a big laugh with his joke, ‘Negroes’ feet are so big that when they walk, they leave a hole in the ground.’” (pg. 356)
I like this quote because it is very powerful. It shows how terrible the white community was towards the blacks.
“The world’s most powerful crime, the sin and the blood on the white man’s hands, are almost impossible to believe.” (pg. 357)
This quote shows Malcolm’s strength as a black minister. It shows that Malcolm was determined and dedicated to his work and beliefs.
“Ten guards and the warden couldn’t have torn me out of those books.” (pg. 359)
This quote is very powerful because it shows that after everything that has happened in history with black and white troubles, the white community still has resentment towards the blacks.
“Four hundred years of black blood and sweat invested here in America, and the white man still has the black man begging for what every immigrant fresh off the ship can take for granted the minute he walks down the gangplank.” (pg. 360)
